1969
CPA was set up by patent attorneys from different UK firms. They had the vision to provide an intellectual property renewals service specialising in patents. Those attorneys have a personal stake in ensuring the quality and development of our offering.
1975
In 1975 we extended our scope from patents to include designs and a trademark renewals service
1979
1979 saw CPA's first US office in New York city
1982
Our US office relocated to Crystal City, Arlington
1985
Search International began providing specialist global trademark searching services. This is now referred to as our searching service.
1986
CPA acquired a majority share of Trade Marks Directory Service (TMDS) in 1986. This meant we could now offer a worldwide watching service. All types of marks are monitored - including 3D, colours, sounds, smells and gestures - for some of the world's most famous brands.
2000
With new offices in Alexandria Virginia and San Francisco California, CPA's expertise crossed the Atlantic and went coast-to-coast. We also launched CPA Direct allowing clients direct, secure, online access to their renewals portfolios 24 hours a day.
2001
In 2001 we launched CPA Domarque, a service that allowed our clients to protect, manage and maintain their domain names online. This is now referred to as our domain and digital content service. We also acquired Paris based Memotech Interface Systeme, a company that provided software specifically for corporations called Memotech. This software product was subsequently renamed CPA Memotech. To keep up with demand we also opened new offices in London and Munich.
2002
By taking a substantial stake in Maxim Technology Ltd, we could now provide the software product CPA Inprotech. This is an invaluable piece of software for all IP attorneys. In 2002 our trademark searching service also went online, allowing clients to obtain instant quotes, initiate searches and track progress.
2003
Memotech and Maxim were fully integrated into the CPA business with the formation of CPA Software Solutions. This is now regarded as the leading provider of IP software for both corporations and attorney firms.
2005
In the summer we completed our purchase of FoundationIP and secured a controlling stake in Intellevate. The companies, based in Minneapolis with offices in India, have helped us expand our already wide range of IP support services.
2006
CPA acquired a major stake in Lacasse and Associates LLC, a US based firm that specialised in patent services, and was considered one the leading patent research firms in the US. This enabled CPA to further extend our portfolio of products and services, providing a greater range to our clients in the US and Europe.
2007
CPA created an alliance with Integreon to establish a dedicated offshore legal process outsourcing centre in Mumbai, India. The purpose of this dedicated delivery centre is to provide legal support services to CPA’s corporate and law firm client. Services include document management solutions such as Document Review and Contract Management, as well as a range of litigation services such as Legal Research and the Preparation of Standard Litigation Documents and Deposition Summaries.
