New Brand Name Names
In 2003, an interesting trend in infant nomenclature was revealed by psychology professor Cleveland Evans of Bellevue University, Nebraska. It seems that Americans are increasingly naming their children after their favourite brands. Dr Cleveland’s study of social security records for the year 2000 turned up the following titbits:
• There were two little boys, one in Michigan and one in Texas, called ESPN after the sports channel.
• Car brands were a popular source of names. Twenty-two girls were registered as Infiniti and five were called Celica.
• Seven boys were called Del Monte. There were 49 male Canons, after the camera firm, and six lads named Courvoisier. There were also six Timberlands and seven Denims.
