IAOP academic team-up to hone industry standards

The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) has announced that it has formed a partnership with Carnegie Mellon University to research the outsourcing industry. The organisations are aiming to acquire a greater understanding of the diverse sector and refine notions of best practice.

Carnegie Mellon – the newest member of the IAOP's Academic Alliance – will utilise the resources of its Information Technology Services Qualifications Centre (ITSqc) to educate professionals about the hottest trends in the industry and any emerging innovations that will guide it into the future. The initiative will tap the talents of the ITSqc's research consortium: a multidisciplinary group of researchers, practitioners and interest groups that have joined forces to address the needs of IT-enabled service providers and their clients.

The practical nature of the partnership will fulfil itself in personnel terms, with members of the IOAP and ITSqc changing places to serve on each other's boards. This will provide ample opportunities for free exchange of information, joint industry events and shared thought leadership. Both parties are seeking to promote professional standards, plus individual and organisational certification through the IAOP's acclaimed Certified Outsourcing Professional (COP) programme.

IAOP chairman, Michael Corbett, said: 'Through our Academic Alliance partnerships with leading institutions like Carnegie Mellon University, we are further advancing the industry and building professional standards to benefit providers and users of outsourcing services.' ITSqc director, Jane Siegel, also welcomed the move: 'We are looking forward to collaborating with the IAOP. It will enable us to work with leaders who are building the sourcing profession and to expand our complementary efforts around the globe.'
