Massive Indian IP city to benefit LPOs
India-based legal outsourcing providers have reacted positively to news of the development of Parsvnath Nano City, 200km north of Delhi. The city, spearheaded by Hotmail creator, Sabeer Bhatia – and driven by a public-private partnership – has been designed as a hothouse of high-end IP creation and a magnet for international investment. Described as India's own Silicon Valley, it is expected to take 10 years to build.
Nano City is being built with a view to establishing a sustainable urban environment with a world-class infrastructure – its top priority to create an 'ecosystem for innovation'. It is hoped that this will lead to a prosperous economy, with a sound ecology and strong social cohesion.
As a means of maximising value, the city will synergise the finest educational and research institutions, provide entrepreneurial backing and encourage high-quality business logistics. The administrative support required to implement this infrastructure is likely to tap into the skills base formed by LPOs that have taken on legal work from the West.
Mr Bhatia told the Hindu: 'India has done well in embracing the service economy. The next wave will be all about the knowledge economy which, in turn, is heavily dependent on IP.'
In a statement, Parsvnath Developers Ltd chairman, Pradeep Jain, said: 'We believe that Nano City will lead the economy of the nation on a path of innovation. With large investments happening in Nano City, it will create massive employment opportunities for all categories of people of the region … This prestigious project will not only validate the investment and business environment of the region, but also firmly establish [it] as an international investment destination.'
