IAOP spreads governance message in new forum
The International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) is offering a full-scale forum on governance – the comprehensive management of outsourcing relationships – at Chicago's Marriott Hotel on 9 September. The conference is the first in the IAOP's new Outsourcing Leadership series, and addresses a range of management issues involved in the implementation of offshore services.
Chaired by the IAOP Governance Chapter, the forum will aim to help outsourcing professionals learn from the practical experiences of their colleagues about the critical concepts involved in governance, and how they can ensure that offshoring deals achieve the required value. Topics to be covered by the forum include:
- Relationship management
- Delivery oversight
- Risk management
- The three levels of governance
The forum will also feature a wealth of detail on 'virtual joint ventures' – deals in which outsourcing customers and their suppliers run commercial and contractual arrangements in a manner similar to that of a corporation. This approach has been regarded as a highly effective tool for achieving both sound governance and effective, collaborative work. Drawing from studies of the experience gathered from Europe and Asia – where this kind of outsourcing has prospered – the session will present a full examination of how the concept works.
IAOP's managing director of thought leadership, Jagdish Dalal, said: 'Governance is a top concern of outsourcing professionals today. The lack of good governance is recognized as the root cause for outsourcing outcomes that fail to meet business expectations for buyers and providers of these services. Increasingly, companies understand the importance of having strong requirements for good governance in outsourcing.'
