Eversheds in new LPO move
International law firm, Eversheds, has outsourced a range of legal tasks to India to save on expenses incurred by UK and in-house activities. The move follows an earlier decision to increase the amount of work it already offshores to South Africa, where labour arbitrage and English-speaking expertise also provide sound LPO conditions. Its latest venture, though, takes the lead of an outsourcing strategy launched by Clifford Chance, which is aiming to free up the time of its London-based paralegals by sending tasks such as document review and low-level drafting to India.
Eversheds had stated that it would only consider taking the outsourcing route to India if it could be convinced that the quality of its product would be maintained. However, commercial group head, Jonathan Guest, says that the firm is now in tune with its clients' views on the issue. 'Clients like the concept, but want someone to establish the process and provide verification,' he said in a statement. 'From our perspective we are bringing a solution to a perceived client need – we will hopefully be introduced to new clients through this and it will lead the way for the firm to act for them on larger scale work.'
Both firms have demonstrated through their new initiatives the confidence that major firms are continuing to show in India-based LPO solutions. The trend is not expected to affect the homeland job market – Clifford Chance global managing partner, David Childs, says that London will continue to be its 'principal recruitment source.'
