USA

Aileen Buchanan
Head of CPA IP Consulting

Aileen has been with CPA since 2002 and is a registered Patent Agent with a technical background in molecular biology and genetics. Prior to joining CPA, Aileen gained ground-up IP experience in Washington, DC by working for seven years at one of the top two IP firms (by volume) in the US as both a paralegal and administrator to their prosecution group.  This prior experience coupled with her background in CPA software and patent analytics has evolved her role to strategic consulting with CPA clients through analyzing and designing comprehensive business solutions in such areas as patent business strategy, value creation and extraction, risk mitigation, compliance, best practice, IP process management and administration.

Eric D. Heinen
Business Process Consultant

Eric is a certified business analyst and has been with CPA since 1998.  Eric previously worked in CPA’s patent renewals department and went on to be the first manager of CPA’s US Renewals Business Take-on team. As part of Eric’s business take-on responsibilities, Eric designed numerous custom renewals interfaces and reporting programs placing an emphasis on customer requirements elicitation.  In addition to renewals, Eric’s specialties include information systems analysis, Unified Modelling Language (UML) and business process modelling, analysis, and simplification.

Pamela Denton
IP Consultant

Pam comes to CPA with 10 years of agent experience in the IP and litigation space as both a certified paralegal and as the Operations Manager at Oliff and Berridge.  Pam's former responsibilities included IP department restructuring as well as policy development, documentation and implementation in such areas as disaster recovery, document retention and litigation discovery.  In between her legal positions, Pam was also president of her own IT business for 5 years focusing on day-to-day operations, financial planning and HR.  Pam has her MBA from University of Mary Washington and is an adjunct professor for undergraduate business studies at Strayer University; teaching courses in organizational behavior, electronic commerce, international business and business ethics.

Germany

Frank Wattler PhD
IP Consultant

Frank works with clients in Europe to extract, identify and exploit patent potential. Frank leads the team’s German consulting projects and has extensive patent analytics and search expertise. Frank’s background is in the biotech industry where he previously worked at Lexicon Genetics in Texas as a Senior Scientist in discovery research, and also at Ingenium Pharmaceuticals, Germany where Frank built up a healthy patent portfolio at Ingenium as their Director of IP.

UK

Danielle Lewensohn
IP Consultant

Danielle has worked as both a corporate strategy analyst and IPR associate for Bavarian Nordic in Copenhagen.  Danielle's former responsibilities included developing IP processes and procedures surrounding invention submission and IP creation, implementing and deploying for the company, an IP Management System, and assisting in FTO searching and application drafting.  Danielle has her MSc in Industrial Engineering and Mgt/Biotech from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden and is a frequent lecturer at the Karolinska Institute on topics surrounding leveraging clinical R&D to innovation.  She is also fluent in Swedish, English, French and Danish.
