Legal Benchmarking Survey

With the rapid changes impacting the Legal marketplace CPA Global is working with General Counsel Metrics to help build a deeper understanding of how law departments operate across the globe.

As part of this initative General Counsel Metrics, LLC, (headed by consultant Rees Morrison) has launched a 'bench marking' survey, which will offer significant insights and benefits to participants.

The survey takes the form of an online questionnaire and takes less than 10 minutes to complete and asks for only six pieces of 2009 data:

  • The number of your lawyers, paralegals, and other staff
  • Your internal and external legal spend last year
  • Your company’s revenue last year

The report, which you will receive in April, will compare your law department's ratios to industry benchmarks as well as to benchmarks for  departments in your country, of similar size to your department, and with similar company revenue.  The report has 24 charts and four tables, all with metrics that are normalized and aggregated, as well as a customized analysis of how you compare. This survey focuses on core metrics and analysis but it will expand into other areas over time such as practice area benchmarks, litigation and intellectual property. All client data submitted will be kept in confidence.

To complete the survey

Submit your data online or forward this email to the appropriate person to complete.

If you submit your data no later than February 28, 2010, you will receive your report at no cost.  The fee rises to $500 in March and $1,000 thereafter.  After April, new participants will receive their report within one week.

If you have questions, you may find them answered on our ten most common inquiries and their answers page.  If you have any other questions you can write the sponsor's President, Rees Morrison, at rees@reesmorrison.com.
