Minneapolis, MN (August 3, 2006) – Today legal process outsourcing pioneer, Intellevate LLC, part of the CPA Group, announced it had added Patent Term Adjustment calculation confirmation to its portfolio of intellectual property (IP) services. This new service – the first of it’s kind, comes as a result of the company’s commitment to helping IP professionals effectively manage their intangible assets.
“Intellevate is the first and only legal process outsourcing firm to offer this service,” states Leon Steinberg, Intellevate CEO. “It adds to Intellevate’s reputation as an end-to-end service provider for those law firms and corporations seeking to outsource some or all of their patent prosecution support services.”
The Patent Term Adjustment itself is an important calculation made by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) when a patent is granted. It adjusts the length of the patent term based on a number of factors, including delays by the attorney firm or the USPTO in processing the patent application. Given the significant value of patents – where even a few extra days in the life of a patent can have a large financial impact – it is in the patent holder’s interest to confirm the USPTO’s calculations.
The USPTO relies on an automated computer programme to calculate adjustments to the patent term and reports the proposed adjustment to the patent holder and currently, the law firm or in-house IP department staff does the time-consuming confirmation calculation. Intellevate’s PTA service completes this essential task accurately, on time, at a reasonable cost and is often of higher quality than most organisations can produce internally, leaving attorneys free to handle more complex and higher value work.
“IP LPO is still in its embryonic stage, but at Intellevate, we’ve recognised our clients’ needs and are responding to them. Most professionals realise that there are a number of stages, particularly in patent prosecution, which can be safely outsourced. Business is such, that IP professionals are under increasing pressure to uncover new cost-effective methods to prosecute patents – Both CPA and Intellevate’s range of products and services offer high-quality results and quick turnaround times, at considerable cost-savings.” Concludes Steinberg
