Rio Tinto and CPA Global celebrate first anniversary of landmark legal outsourcing deal in IndiaLeading global mining company Rio Tinto and CPA Global have celebrated the first anniversary of their landmark legal outsourcing deal by pledging their ongoing commitment to the Indian market. The agreement between Rio Tinto and CPA Global, one of the world’s leading providers of legal services outsourcing (LSO), is widely recognised to have put the LSO industry on the map and focused attention on India as a major international centre for such work. However, the agreement has extended far beyond India, with CPA Global undertaking work for Rio Tinto in a number of other jurisdictions, and already helping reduce Rio Tinto's annual legal spend by more than $14 million. To mark the first anniversary of the partnership, senior executives from Rio Tinto’s and CPA Global’s international operations gathered in Gurgaon, New Delhi, for a series of strategic planning meetings and a special awards evening, where people from both sides of the relationship were recognised for their achievements over the past year. The awards were presented by Rio Tinto’s Chief Counsel for Global Business Services, Neville Henwood, and CPA Global’s Head of LSO, Leah Cooper. It is in Gurgaon where a dedicated group of 18 CPA Global lawyers work as an extension of the global Rio Tinto legal team, performing a variety of legal support services, including document and contract review, transaction support and legal research. Commenting on the anniversary of the partnership, Rio Tinto’s Neville Henwood said: “The relationship between Rio Tinto and CPA Global has grown in significance for both of us, and for many interested observers. It is a relationship that has delivered significant tangible benefits, and is helping transform the way our legal services are provided throughout the world. Rio Tinto looks forward to continuing the partnership with CPA Global both in India and in other parts of the world.” CPA Global Chief Executive Officer Peter Sewell said: “This partnership has shown to the world that there is another, better way for corporations to manage their legal services – and that outsourcing is here to stay. I’m delighted to see that the relationship between Rio Tinto and CPA Global is going from strength to strength. We work together as a team with mutual trust and respect, and Rio Tinto’s growing confidence in CPA Global is evidenced by the increasing scope and scale of the projects we have been asked to undertake in India and elsewhere.” Added CPA Global’s Leah Cooper: “The anniversary celebrations in Gurgaon represent a strong, ongoing commitment from both sides to our legal outsourcing relationship and to the Indian market. India is a leading international centre for quality legal services outsourcing and forms a vital part of CPA Global’s multi-shore offering.”
