My name is Marcus Liddiard. I am the Director of Commercial & Pricing and I am not a woman. I am, however, a husband, a father, a friend, a manager, a direct report and a colleague. All these roles make gender equality as much as an issue for me as it is for anyone else. I really cannot see why there should be any difference in the opportunities women should have in business and elsewhere, just as there shouldn’t be any difference regarding where you come from, your skin colour etc. But, I do see the challenges that are faced.

Progress based on ability & contribution

I have worked at CPA Global in a variety of roles over the last 17 years and have been in IP for over 21 years. There has always been a strong balance of women throughout all but the very highest levels in our business and the industry as a whole. Whilst I believe that everyone makes some compromise to progress in business, such as time with family, those compromises shouldn’t have to be any different for the different sexes. Yes, there are some women that seem to progress to the highest levels but at what cost? There must be a level playing field. I believe that CPA Global is a great and fair place to work and I see significant efforts going in to make CPA Global a true example of a meritocracy where all people progress on ability and contribution instead of gender. However, things can always be improved. It doesn’t matter who you are, we all have a role to play. It is a challenge that I try hard to remind myself of. I am not sure that I could look my young daughter in the eye if I didn’t!

Here is my small contribution for #EachforEqual.
