Partnership will further empower the USPTO to fulfill its mission to examine, grant and disseminate patents and trademarks.
April 5, 2017 – ALEXANDRIA: IP technology leader CPA Global®, is pleased to announce a new contract award to support the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), Office of the Commissioner for Patents with Full Classification Services.
The USPTO receives hundreds of thousands of patent applications each year which require classification within approximately 145,000 United States Patent Classification (USPC) categories and 260,000 Cooperative Patent Classification (CPC) categories. Patent classification systems categorize patents and other documents relevant to the technical features of their content. Once assigned, they are used to efficiently locate other potentially relevant prior art documents. CPA Global’s Full Classification Services will ensure patent applications are routed correctly within the USPTO’s examination corps and that patent documents remain easily searchable by classification code for examiners and the public at large.
“Innovation is at the heartbeat of the global economy, and protecting new ideas is essential to development in an increasingly competitive market,” says Simon Webster, CEO of CPA Global. “The USPTO continues to lead the world in IP and innovation, and we look forward to a valued partnership that will empower a global IP community and realize the potential of ideas.”
CPA Global companies have a long history of collaboration with the USPTO, dating back to 1949 when Cantwell & Paxton began providing patent information to attorneys and agents. Our mutually beneficial partnership also includes Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) Search and Preliminary Examination contract work that CPA Global has been continuously performing for the USPTO since 2005.
