BREAKDOWN OF A TECHNOLOGY INTELLIGENCE STUDY
The fast-paced technology evolution is the hallmark of our times. Innovation changes the world. Telecommunications have fundamentally changed political discourse. Constant medical innovation means we live 50 days longer every year. Think how much more this enables us as a society to achieve.
But how do we keep up with what’s going on? In a world of fragmented media, with so much new information entering the public domain daily, how do we know what’s really happening out there?

1) Patents are inherently commercial. They exist because a patent owner wishes to preclude someone else from monetarily benefiting from their innovation.

Our process to create a report revolves around deploying the right expertise at the right point of the IP lifecycle. It all begins with a detailed brief. Typically, we connect directly with experts within our customers’ organisations to work through their objectives to effectively scope the exercise. Once we’re clear on the desired outcomes, we create initial data collections. We use rigorous patent search techniques, very similar to those performed at the patent office during examination procedures, but with the added advantage that our searches have additional tools and data sources at their disposal. Plus, many have the benefit of on-the-ground experience in the industries we serve.
We review the technical data and content that our clients want. This is a time-consuming but important process as it creates very accurate results, and means that our data collection is structured specifically for the output the client is trying to create. Further, we use our client’s terminology. Do you call it 3D printing or additive manufacture? Is it a joist or beam? An optical sensor or a light barrier? These differences seem trivial but are an amazing obstacle to fast comprehension for an audience that is looking to advance technology intelligence into actionable insight. We’re also accomplished taxonomists, meaning that our people have superlative skills in organising information to make it easier to navigate.
Our search professionals go further. They delve deep into the detail, accessing additional information sources that enable them to answer contextual questions around financial data, research publications, legal data, product announcements, start-up funding and much more.
Only when data curation is complete do we move on to provide an analysis which layers in value with a narrative of observations, connections and insights. Our commentary is focused on the specific questions our clients pose, so that each report is customised to the business decision that it is intended to support.
